Normally, a veteran in need contacts one of our partner agencies with a request for assistance. Caseworkers at partner agencies will ask clients when they call the Help Line or come to intake whether they are a veteran, then ask them to provide a DD214 or other official proof of military service. The caseworker then contacts Veterans Helping Veterans. If a veteran contacts Veterans Helping Veterans directly, we will request that they obtain their DD214 or other proof or military service and then work with one of these agencies on their request for assistance.

Acceptable proof of service consists of a DD214, A Georgia Drivers License embossed with VETERAN, discharge papers, a Guard/Reserve Points Summary, or a VA ID showing eligibility. We try to verify every veteran’s documentation is legitimate with the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs service officer in Jasper.
